An eclectic home bursting with happy colors

Posted on 0

Who lives here

Wafa and her husband, a couple in their thirties

Size

100 square meters (1076 square feet)

Location

Marsa, a neighborhood in the Northern part of Tunis, near Sidi Bou Said

Wafa and her husband moved into this house six years ago and they decided to decorate it with curated furniture and objects that have a story to tell, the story of their life. Both are passionate about travels, art, books, photography and graphic design. And Wafa is a very creative person who loves DIY, vibrant colors and plants. She works as a university teacher but she also writes for Tunisian home decor magazines.

Their home has an amazing and unique eclectic vibe. Unlike most people who buy their furniture from big stores, Wafa designed everything herself and had most of the pieces custom made by local carpenters. The dining room bursts with flamboyant colors and patterns that mix and match in a beautiful way. The Louis XVI chairs were repainted and reupholstered with scarves found in a flea market: that’s how far her creativity goes! The old wooden trunk that belonged to her grandmother works as a pedestal for some of her plants and it stands next to the more contemporary open shelving on which her beloved books and other treasures are displayed. Another amazing customization is the staircase risers covered with handmade Mexican and Tunisian ceramics: what a hybrid and yet harmonious cultural mosaic. Last but not least, she put a lot of efforts designing every single inch of her new baby boy’s room using a lot of rattan, wicker, and cane. It gives the room a very vintage charm but also a breezy tropical vibe!

All these personal touches reflect her deeply artistic personality! Her home is a colorful and fun oasis that feels very warm and inviting, everything a home should be!
